OSPHERIX Photobooth supports Canon, Nikon, and Sony DSLRs through native SDK bridges. Each brand requires selecting the correct backend in Settings.
General camera recommendations
- Connect the camera by USB before starting a live event.
- Use AC power for the camera when possible — battery depletion during an event can interrupt live view.
- If the camera was changed during the same app session, wait a few seconds for USB detection to refresh.
- If detection fails, restart the camera first, then the app.
- Use a direct USB port on the PC rather than a USB hub if possible.
Selecting the camera backend
- Open Settings → Camera.
- Select the backend matching the connected camera:
Canon,Nikon, orSony. - The app should detect USB camera changes automatically, even if the camera was powered on after the app started.
Canon cameras
Canon DSLRs use the EOS SDK bridge bundled with the app. Most Canon EOS DSLR and mirrorless models with USB tethering support are compatible. Set the camera to PC Remote or PTP mode in the camera's connection menu if required.
Nikon cameras
Nikon DSLRs use the Nikon SDK bridge. Set the camera USB connection type to MTP/PTP in the camera menu. Avoid selecting Mass Storage mode, which disables tethering.
Sony cameras
Sony mirrorless and DSLR models use the Sony SDK bridge. Enable PC Remote mode in the camera's USB connection settings. Some Sony models require the menu option USB Connection → PC Remote to be set before each session.
Webcam / IP camera fallback
If a DSLR is not available, you can use a webcam or IP camera (MJPEG stream) as a fallback. Select Webcam or IP Camera from the backend dropdown. Note that these modes do not support DSLR-quality capture — they are intended for testing or low-budget setups.
